Safe and Family-Friendly Environment
At Inner West Minis Competition, we provide a fantastic opportunity for children aged 4 to 9 years to engage in Rugby Union. Our competition focuses on skill development, teamwork, and most importantly, having fun in a safe environment.
We play on Friday nights from 5:00pm at St Lukes Park, Concord. We have offer 3 stages of rugby union progression:
- Walla Rugby or Mightyu5s Rugby - (non contact rugby): This program is a fun, safe, no-contact introduction to rugby that emphasises maximum enjoyment for players and families. Designed and developed by professional rugby players and coaches, Mighty U5 is the ultimate entry level program for 4 and 5 year old boys and girls. Run for 14 weeks during the rugby season, Mighty U5 engages players during each session using fun coaching cues to help them understand each skill. The program rotates between drills and finishes with a modified game. Players will not most likely train during the week and just have one Friday night session from 5:00pm at St Lukes Park, Concord.
- Tri Time Rugby (non contact rugby): This stage of Rugby recommended for participants aged 6 - 7 years and continues participants' core skill development whilst also introducing contact-readiness activities and modified Tri Tag Rugby to prepare participants for junior rugby. Tri Tag Rugby embraces everything that makes Rugby unique including scrums, lineouts, and the breakdown, providing a softer introduction to the game in a way that is fun and accessible for all participants, regardless of age, skill or experience.
- Junior Rugby (contact rugby): This stage of rugby is recommended for players aged 8 and 9. In Junior rugby we introduce tackling, scrums (no pushing), lineouts, and the breakdown. We play under modified rules to prioritise safety, participation and skill development. A link to the modified rules can be found here https://xplorer.rugby/sjru/junior-rugby. For u9s towards the end of the season we will introduce full field and rotate games around the home grounds of our participating local clubs.
We also will also send teams to compete regularly in a wider Sydney Junior Rugby competition against other districts. These will occur on Sunday mornings and will be optional for players. For those kids that want a little extra Rugby and see different parts of Sydney this is an ideal opportunity
